Program Name: BB&T's Cultural Orientation

Program Summary:

BB&T’s ‘Cultural Orientation’ program is the financial education component of a broader Cultural Orientation initiative specifically designed to assist refugees resettling in the United States. This program helps individuals and their families acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to adapt to their new lives and become productive citizens who are fully integrated into their communities. The BB&T aspect of the program covers basic banking and financial topics in a thoughtful and simple manner. We keep in mind that in most cases, these individuals may not speak nor understand even one word of the English language when they first arrive in the US.
The BB&T associates who facilitate the course have aligned themselves with key community partners to deliver this meaningful “training” for groups of individuals on an as-needed basis throughout the year. ‘Cultural Orientation’ came to life through a collaborative effort with key partners beginning with Catholic Charities of Charlotte, NC, and has spread throughout our footprint.
You could say that the Cultural Orientation program is somewhat of a “ spin off “ of the larger and more widely known “ Bank on Your Success” series in that its primary goal is to share financial knowledge in the most effective way possible throughout our footprint. This program took the basics of banking and crafted a visually impactful presentation that is understandable whether one can speak English or not. Interpreters are always present.
