Citizens Bank & Trust, Kansas City, MO

Entry Year: 2019
Entry Category: Financial Education
Asset Size: Small
Program Name: Citizens Bank & Trust Financial Literacy Program

Program Summary:

Citizens Bank & Trust has been providing financial education in the smaller communities we serve for more than 15 years. After a pilot program in 2015, the Financial Literacy program officially began in January 2016. We have been leading financial literacy ever since by providing meaningful financial education in the communities served. We partner with schools, universities, organizations, and other groups to equip young adults, families, and individuals with the tools for financial success.

The bank offers the Money Smart modules; EverFi@Work, which are interactive online modules; EverFi In-School program for high school students; and customized curriculum courses at the request of individuals and organizations. Classes are instructed by bank employees who volunteer their personal time. With over 25%, currently active, (and more than half of the workforce throughout the life of the program) involved with the financial literacy efforts, it has become a strong part of the bank’s employee culture.

Those interested in the program can visit our website to schedule a financial literacy event with a Citizens Bank & Trust financial educator. There is also a self-paced Financial Education Center on our website for self-learners that covers planning for retirement, paying for college, major life transactions, and financial basics. Many of the events Citizens conducts, are referrals from members of the community, past Financial Literacy students, and our own employees.
