Program Summary:

“Empower by Coastway” is a financial capability curriculum and tool kit, compiled and developed by Coastway Community Bank, to help members of our community achieve lasting financial well-being, whether they are students just starting to learn about money, or adults in need of assistance. Empower is delivered by a group of 10 financial educators, to non-profits and schools across Rhode Island, in both English and Spanish. In 2017, we presented 47 classes, spanning over 100 classroom hours and serving 800 individuals across a wide range of demographics. Teaching modules include:

Financial Wellbeing: A high-level overview of topics including budgeting, savings and credit, that help participants gain a better understanding of how their financial choices impact their overall well-being.

Money Smart: A deeper look at a range of topics. We offer simple workshops, aimed at understanding banking services and managing a checking account, to more complex ones such as building and repairing credit, buying a home, and more.

Empower Small Business: An overview of topics designed to empower entrepreneurs and business owners to start or grow their business.

Empower Youth: Designed for teens and young adults, this curriculum focuses on budgeting, saving, and the importance of building credit, with an eye towards preparing for a sound financial future. This class has hands on activities to engage the youth and make learning fun.
