Program Summary:

In 2019 Central Bank developed the Fraud Academy in effort to educate employees on the various types of frauds, scams, crimes and safety issues that impact our customers and personnel. The academy met once a week for three hours, over a five week period for a total of 15 hours of classroom instruction. Topics covered in the academy included Elder Abuse, Scams (All types of scams), Money Laundering & Structuring, New Account Fraud, Card Fraud, Check Fraud, Robbery Prevention/Response/Investigation, Social Engineering, Human Trafficking, Skimmers and Verbal De-escalation Techniques.
Classes were taught by internal and external experts in each topic. Our internal instructors included our own subject matter experts and our external experts included instructors from the Eastern District of Kentucky United States Attorney’s Office, FBI, US Secret Service and local law enforcement that provided in-depth training on Human Trafficking, Card Skimming, Robbery Investigations and Financial Crimes.
Each student was required to pass a weekly test and a comprehensive final exam in order to graduate the Fraud Academy. Upon graduation each student received a framed certificate identifying them as a “Fraud Detection Specialist” (see below) that they will display at their workstation. The certificate is displayed to encourage conversation with customers interested in learning about fraud and to deter potential fraudsters from committing fraudulent or criminal activity at our bank.
