Entry Category: Financial Education

Program Name: Teach Kids to Save

Program Summary:

Community Bank developed a focused effort for providing financial education for children many years ago, but refined our Teach Kids to Save program in 2014. We offer specific products for children and students that allow them the opportunity to open and manage a bank account without the worry of service charges and fees. Community Bank offers Student Direct Checking and Minor Savings as our products specific to the children in our community. Our staff have provided training for students in their classrooms, in daycares, and at after school programs in all the markets that we serve. We customize our topics based on the age of the children that we are addressing (Ages range from 3 years old to high school seniors). Our message is fun, encouraging, age appropriate, and educational in each instance. Community Bank’s goal is to give the children in our bank’s market an understanding of how banking works, why banks are important and how they can help the student reach their financial goals. In 2014, we started our “Bank Day” program where we visited several elementary schools in the area on a monthly basis and offered the students and opportunity to make a deposit to their account with a bank representative who visited their school on a specified day. The bank representative taught the student how to complete a deposit slip and how to count money during the process. We have been able to reach hundreds of children with our program each year and plan to continue to make a positive impact with our program for many years to come.
