Flood Disaster Protection Act (FDPA)

The National Flood Insurance Act of 1968 (amended to the Flood Disaster Protection Act of 1973) and related legislation created the National Flood Insurance Program, which makes federally backed flood insurance available to owners of improved real estate. In 2012, Congress encouraged the development of a private market for flood insurance in the Biggert-Waters Act.

ABA continues its advocacy on private flood acceptance and NFIP reform and reauthorization.
