How do I apply/nominate a colleague? 

Acceptance of applications and nominations will resume in August 2022. In order to complete your application, you’ll need to have handy:

  • Your resume/CV 
  • Your biography
  • One reference. The reference must include name, affiliation, email address and direct phone number.Narrative (first person) answers to the three questions (1250 character limit).

What are the next steps?

After you have applied to the program, you will receive notification that your submission has been received. Winners will be notified by early November.

ABA's Under 40 in Wealth Management Awards recognition event will take place at ABA’s 2023 Wealth Management and Trust Conference. All winners are invited to register and attend the conference. A one-time 50% registration discount will be given; this is valid only for the year you are initially named a ABA Under 40 recipient. 

Who can be nominated?

The American Bankers Association's Under 40 in Wealth Management is open to wealth management and fiduciary professionals who are committed to the highest standards of achievement at work and in their communities who are 40 years old or younger as of November 1, 2022. View the official rules here.

If I applied previously, can I apply again this year?

If you are not selected in 2022, you may be considered again in future years until you no longer fit the nomination requirements (age, practice area, etc.).

Can I nominate myself?

Yes.

Can I nominate more than 1 person?

Yes.

Will the nominee know that he or she has been nominated?

Yes. The nominee will receive an email notifying him/her that a nomination has been submitted. The nominee assumes all responsibility for completing his/her application.

Is there a fee for nominating someone?

No.

Why should I nominate someone?

Nominating a young professional for ABA’s Under 40 in Wealth Management celebrates the achievements of emerging leaders in the wealth management community; highlights rising stars in the profession; identifies future leaders; offers Honorees a chance to be featured at ABA events, in the ABA Banking Journal and on ABA’s website; provides Honorees with exclusive networking and recognition opportunities; and helps advance the future of the banking profession.

Do nominees have to members of ABA?

No.

How do I know if my online nomination form went through? Will I receive a confirmation?

After submitting your nomination(s), you will get a message thanking you for your nomination.

When are nominations due?

September 30, 2022.

What is the criteria for selecting the 2022 honorees?

Nominations will be judged by a diverse steering committee of wealth and fiduciary professionals. Some of the qualities and characteristics the committee will be looking for include (in no particular order):

  • Academic training (degrees and certifications earned, etc.)
  • Client relationship management
  • Community service
  • Dedication to the profession
  • Inventiveness
  • Leadership skills
  • “People” skills/mentoring ability
  • Personal integrity
  • Professional service (with professional societies, organizations, educational events, etc.)
  • Public speaking/presentation skills
  • Sustained career progress
  • Technical skills
  • Work/life balance

If selected, what happens next?

ABA will contact all individuals selected for ABA Under 40 recognition, as well as the individuals who submitted their nominations.

The 2023 class will be notified in November, announced in December and honored during the 2022 Wealth Management and Trust Conference. Winners will receive a one-time 50% registration discount for the conference. Honorees will be profiled on ABA’s website and in the ABA Banking Journal. Each “class” of honorees will receive other special recognition when attending ABA events.
