Banks employ over 2.2 million people in the United States. That’s more than the population of Washington, DC; San Francisco, CA, and New Orleans, LA, added together!
The first bank opened in the United States in the late 1700s. The bank had six regular employees—cashier, teller, sub-teller, accomptant (now known as accountant), clerk and porter. Now there are about 6,000 banks across the United States which provide jobs to over 2 million Americans.
